Jim,

I host several forums for customers and this is a recurrent theme: 'bots and spammers trying to gain access to steal email addresses or use the smtp server for sending spam. I have changed to the Simple Machines forum software and it has really helped. However, we have had to use a "closed" forum where posters have to be preregistered. On some forums, we allow anonomous registration and long as the IP is from a US ISP.

Simple Machines has conversion programs for most other popular forum software so the database can be preserved.
