We've been outputting XML from our XAP machine for two years now. It allowed us to feed customer data to our phone system to allow interactive automated customer service with voice recognition (using an Avaya IVR). We recently added functions that allows some of our hosted customer service pages to access customer records using the same XML/XAP data pull.
We’ve also been using Comet to XML generate merge file for printing. The technology XML2Print allows us to perform automated mail-merged documents directly in the postscript printers using documents prepared by PlanetPress from Objectif Lune. We currently output the XML to the spooler and use a VB program to unspool the documents to our many high speed postscripts printer. The use of the VB program allows us to print page ranges while maintaining the integrity of the XML document.
My only beef is that outputting XML from Comet is so slow. I often wish we could have something like the merge command from XAP to actually output data to a text file or even to a printer/spooler.
