Gary Cooper worked for me at Qantel. I hired him. He was a bright guy that not many could work with. Gina had a hard time with him. Barbara and I liked him very much and enjoyed working with him. I remember seeing him in his office in front of 2 Q terminals with one hand on each keyboard, working with both simultaneously! That is real multi-tasking. I designed the Q report generator. Gary was the lead programmer, Barbara worked with him.

Remember that the Q keyed files were split into the key tree and the data. The Q report generator ignored the key tree and read through the data one record at a time. And, yes, the data was divided into AUs which were linked to make up the file.

In our last meeting we discussed the possibility of making "macro" commands to the file server to do searches such as this. That idea along with long file names are still on the table. Barb had a choice to do either these enhancements or the new Data Express. She correctly chose to do Data Express which is a huge enhancement to our system. At this time, the file system is SO stable it is scary to make any large scale changes to it.

The other big product change we are working on is the replacement for COSH.EXE. It is the only Comet Component not able to run in the 64 bit environments of the future.
