Had a similar problem many-many years ago. One of my larger client hired a new Controller. On his 2nd day he sat in front of his terminal and ran every single programs on the menu... Including Month-End updates & purges... Fortunatelly I was on site when that happen and we caught him before too much damage happen.

anyway,

One easy colution that I use is to have the menu system write a log file. The log file can be very usefull in resolving this type of problem.

I also use it to track program usage. The usage changes over the years, as new programs are introduced some older programs go in oblivion. This is specially true for Reports. We've been "Windowysing" tons of reports and don't want to waste our time & efforts on programs that are never used.

Tracking usage also allows us to remove old/obsolete/never-used programs from the menu system, thus making room for new programs.

Other option to prevent unauthorized execution of some programs, is to restrict access to updates & purges to qualified operator. Many of my client have a separate password for Month-End processing.
