Partly right. I remember crossing the $1/MB when I bought a 345MB from Costco for $350 or so.

Email newsletter from local PC store had these items.

16GB pen/thumb drive for $50. Vista has "Ready Boost" that will use thump/pen drives as secondary memory cache. Supposed to be faster than Pagefile. Experiement. Give 8GB to Ready Boost and 8GB to Comet. Would Comet compile faster. As I've "windowized" programs my batch compiles have slowed down.

Video card with 1GB for $550. My first PC had a video card with 256K. Every other month or so I had to pull the card out and press the chips back into their sockets. Heat would make them wiggle out.

1TB hard drive for $225. Cost per MB is now .000225. Same as free if you leave the calculator set at two decimals. 1GB is .225. Not quite free, yet.

Survived all this. Guess I can survive Vista and Server 2008 :)
