After lots of review of Comet documentation and upgrading a client that uses Comet Server 2003 R2 and XP clients with a dash of Win/2000. Have the following comments:

1. All in all, smooth. Have to install Server stuff first, Comet workstation 2nd on Server. Next choose a few close by clients to gain confidence. On a roll!!

2. Clients don't want down time. When are you going to be done?? Dam..

3. Workstation upgrade to Comet Workstation 2008 using UNC took 3 minutes max each. (Just focus on Comet 2008 upgrade and nothing else. Forget about REL, UTL, etc at this point. Get going!!)

4. Go back to server and release latest REL zip. Do test of Comet workstation on server first, then a few clients. Keep the operators at bay. Stay out of the pool!!

5. At this stage, everything worked and nothing appeared broken.

6. Made decision with Barb that I didn't want to jump to the Reporter 8.0. Client is on a tight weekly cycle and utilizes previous Reporters too much for me to take a leap. So DID NOT load latest release of UTL. Stayed with previous release of UTL.

7. Went after Comet Explorer and it kept taking me to IE for an explanation what Comet Explorer was. Called Barb. There's a program that's on the UTL release that's VERY important AND if you block access to UTL because you don't want operators to have access, then this condition comes up. To make it short, EVERYONE must have access to UTL. Yuk!!

8. Initially, in trying to solve this problem and remembering my 503/504 days, somehow stepped on my QSTART2 security system by unzipping the latest REL zip and destroyed my security system. Had to go back to the super duper back door password to get Comet back up and running. Too make things short, SECURITY uses a screen maintenance display that forces the operator to SHIFT/TAB, SHIFT/ENTER, TAB, ENTER, UP/DOWN ARROWS similar to the Q-12 950 days. Time for an upgrade, think so??

9. Some clients don't always upgrade every year to Signature's dismay. I got a slow start on Comet Explorer because Sig took away this option when the client didn't upgrade year-after-year. If Comet Explorer was available in Comet 2005, don't take it away if they don't upgrade to 2007. It just slows everything down to the max.. I had to go to 2008 just to get back to 2005!! Three year span.. If they bought it, let 'em keep it..

10. Gave short demo of Comet Explorer and DOCMGR and got Oooo's and Aaas's.

11. Need half way house between old/new Reporter because I can't disrupt weekly usage of Reporter reports that have been used for years.
