I have experienced taht problem for years and hence I always used fixed IP addresses. One of my soon to be ex customers recently changed all their networking gear and put in a VPN and insisted on using DHCP and now I have that problem back. Out of about 80 pc's across ten locations I would get one or two calls a week that they can't log on to all their workstations. As they are leaving I dont care so I just tell them to reboot. And it may happen more often than that as some of the branches mnay be smart enough to realise that if they get the same symptoms they can try the same fix and the problem may go away. ( Who is getting old & cynical ?)
I can investigate if you like, if you think of something that neeeds checking, happy to do it.
Their new IP guys that I have not met and have little faith in, swear that their gear renews the old IP address, but obviously sometimes it doesn't.
For the life of me I cannot see any good reason for DHCP in an office environment. Every new PC you get needs all sorts of standard stuff setup on it, what is one more thing, especially as it makes the system work. I woiuld have thought it could be classified as a security feature to not use DHCP.
