Yes! I did lots of credit card processing and pre-authorized payment processing (checking). All of those were done in batch mode using different methods - mostly through secured FTP.

When my client went with on-line payment, we opted for a mixed solution where the first part is XAP (authentication & sign-on) then control was passed over to the web-host that had secured pages and would handle the transaction through issuer-supplied scripts. The actual card information never passed on our system. Remember that PCI compliance's rules clearly state that we are not allowed to store the security code (3-4 digits in the back).

The code I wrote works with American, Canadian and U.K. banks.
