Went to your link off Sig's web page. Read your entire article. Well written and you have your opinions. There is a place for READ, INQUIRE, EXTRACT, WRITE, INSERT, REWRITE and their IMAGE cousins. The whole story is error exception routines and how you want to control it, program flow RULES. INQUIRE's blow thru EXTRACT's. How about an address change to a Customer while doing Order Entry? I would never use an INQUIRE in this situation!! READ is a must, test for 33. INSERT and REWRITE have their own logic that depends on EXCP logic. INQUIRE's are for INQUIRY programs or reports at a point in time. Let's INQUIRE on all G/L activity for the past 6 months. Every transaction. PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, HOME, END, Up Arrow, Down Arrow. READ and INQUIRE are not the same.
