Yes Back is dos in french, talking about someone's backside. But this DOS is more like in MS DOS.
The IBM OEM character set was used by good old DOS (the very comfortable see-column-back-slash prompt). Also used by Win 9x and dropped in favor of the ANSI character set in Win XP. All of this is just a mean machination by Bill & cie to make us learn a few more cuss words. I've been fighting an uphill battle with character set since then... I am not sure why it is an uphill battle when MS is taking us down the pits??
