Dam, another leap. I've been experimenting with disk cache stuff for years. DOS to present which is a RAID 5, SATA, 1.5 Terebyte with 256 meg of onboard memory. Since I have Vista and Win 2008 Server I'll investigate. I have a few USB drives. I'm a TEST4 freak. But I must admit, what's the difference between a 1 sec compile and .25?? The only area I'd appreciate a speed boost is at month-end closings. Before I actually close, I create a sub-directory beneath the primary Comet directory using YYYY-MM naming. Ex: You have a Comet directory path such as J:\Comet\XXX and the Comet directory is called XXX. In that directory you have additional sub-directories named after the Year/Month of the closing period. 2008-01, 2008-02, 2008-03, etc. I backup everything to YYYY-MM using Comet's DOS calls. After the backup is complete, only then do I proceed with closing the month. If anything goes wrong, I have a snap-shot of the period before closing. In the world of TERA, disc space is no problem. Wouldn't mind if this backup process could be sped up. Of course, you got to sell this to the customer. Good research!!
