Here's a quick, non-technical answer
Bluetooth has a range of thirty feet. Normally, it's used to connect two devices for the purpose of communicating together for a limited amount of time. This would be the connection between say a cell phone and ear piece or a keyboard/mouse to your computer; both without wires.
Wi-fi has a longer range. Typically up to a couple hundred feed and it's more of a one (access point) to many (nodes). The typology is similar to a wired lan layout (ie. a cat5 switch connected to multiple computers) except there are no wires.
I normally think that bluetooth is like a USB wire without the wire. And, wi-fi is line cat-5 lan cables without the cables.
Hope this helps and if I've got it wrong, please let me know and we'll both learn from it.
