All I can think of is try changing the directory to a type S. I think the client software is overburdened with resolving file record locks used as the coordination scheme for type N directories.
Don't forget, when a file open call is processed without a directory specified, Comet will attempt to open the file on each DAB in accessed order until it either finds the file or reaches the end of the DAB list.
We may have recommended turning some directories into type N access to try to debug some situation, but in general, I do not think that the type N directory access scheme works for so many users.
