I'd like to talk about the next release of our server products before final release time.

As you know, the Comet Servers run as windows services. This means they are not associated with any user account. They run as part of Windows itself.

Strictly speaking, services should not have the ability to interact with a user's screen since it is associated with a user and not the system. CometServe has tricked windows for years in order for the User Interface(UI) to be accessible from the main screen. Beginning with Vista and continuing with all newer Windows server releases, Windows has made this trick unusable.

We have therefore re-written the UI as separate executables. Starting with server build 804, the server portion will be installed as a service, and the UIs will be installed as separate executables located in every one's startup folder.

Communication between server and UI is accomplished through shared memory and Windows pipes.

You might not notice much of a difference between this build and the last one. The UI looks slightly different, and if you shut down the servers, you will notice that the UI will stay on the tray and, will be x'd out.
