Disaster Recovery and Comet Dongle

Recently, there have been several discussions about a disaster recovery solution for Comet systems.

The first one has been proposed by Steve Hagan. That is to do a nightly compression of all data, transmit that data to the Comet Connect server, automatically decompress it and implement expanded configuration of Comet Connect in the event of a disaster. This is definitely workable.

Jon Sacks did not trust us to maintain the server in his case. He wants to contract with someone else to provide the backup. In fact he wants to run his entire operation over the net. The only problem is that his choice of host can not or will not provide a USB port for the Comet Dongle. In that case, Jon would purchase a second dongle from Signature to be connected to a server somewhere to provide Comet security.

Here is another suggestion to solve the dongle issue for disaster recovery: We could make a dongle available on one of our co-located servers to be used in the event of a disaster. With a simple firewall setting we can make this dongle available for use by the disabled customer. We can pre-configure a certificate for this dongle so that a simple configuration change for the customer would implement the server change.
