Been there - dunnit !

Had to deal with 35, 50, 90, 135 and 180 pages a minute printers from the good old HP, to Cannon, OCE and Xerox. Oddly I discovered that printing from Comet to these beast was really-really faster using the Postscript drivers than the PCL. I've always been a HP-PCL die hard and still remember most of the commands, but once I switched to Windoze printing I found that on some printers the performance using PCL really suck. I gave the Postscript drivers a chance and what a difference. It changes nearly nothing for us the programmers and if you still have PCL in some old reports, it will still work in RAW mode.

Also I found that using the UNIX printing instead of the windows queues made a big difference when dealing with very large printer that have their own queue and job processor like the high-end Xerox printers (they run off a Sparc station).
