I agree with both Jon & Stephen. I believed we briefly touched on something similar at the last developer's conference. Indeed, Comet Explorer is the future of file utilties. In addition to whats already been mentioned, here are some ideas:
1. Quick access to a file in Comet Explorer. From my MTB program, allow me to do something like this: "COMETEX C1MAST,DAT". This would launch Comet Explorer, and just bring up this file and allow the normal file maintenance options from there.
2. Allow some basic file operations in the same manner
COMETEX C1MAST.DAT /MAINT
COMETEX C1MAST.DAT /KEYCHECK
COMETEX C1MAST.DAT /WHOHAS
COMETEX C1MAST.DAT /RENAME
COMETEX C1MAST.DAT /PROP(ERTIES)
Having quick access to commonly used developer functions would be huge for me, personally. Honestly, I still use the QTILITIES menu when I can for this very reason. But with extended key files playing a more predominate role in our system, I need to use Comet Explorer. Right now, it simply takes a little too long to maneuver through the list when I want to operate on one file. #1 above would be huge.
If I could have anything I wanted, being able to type COMETEX C1MAST,DAT and having that file immediately show up in Comet explorer with FILENT type information, an then having buttons down the right side of the window pane with access to all the file operations (similar to the right click list) would be wonderful. It would make things so much faster for operating on files.
Each file can be a maximum of 1MB in length Uploaded files will be purged from the server on a regular basis.
