Of course one can write a DES program that does what you need.

We recentrly wrote a routine that normally is INCLUDEd (USEd) in our old reports and it allows us to automatically set margins, draw frames, control headers and it counts the lines. This routine is handy because no matter which Windows printer we use, it will always set the margins and fonts that we want and it does have a THREE.HOLE.PAPER software switch.

I've been thinking of making some of that code available on this forum.

Another method, if your "new" printers are HP Laser compatible (aka PCL printers) then you can set your DES program to simply send the right Escape sequence to do anything you want.

I currently have routines that even allow me to pick paper trays on printers with up to 5 input trays. They work in PCL and in Windows Calls. They include the HP LaserJet 2100/2200/8100/8150 and the Xerox N32/N40 serie.

Years ago, one of my clients swicth a Q-Box 300LPM for a 4si laser printer. Thru the printer's control panel he set it to 132 column, landscape with proper page length. This way he ran ALL of his old Q-Box reports on 3 holes letter-size paper in landscape mode. No re-programming whatsover.
