Look, I'm not trying to say that Windows Vista is an OS masterpiece, because it isn't, but here's the issue: Everyone has complained about the UAC at some point because it makes the flow of a system slow down. However, now everyone is defending the necessity of it?! You can't dislike the feature, and at the same time say you need it. It doesn't make sense.

If the UAC is the main defense against a virus, then there's bigger problems in this picture.
