Yes, depending on what you are using, the font map is different. They're either mapped as IBM OEM or ANSI character set. By default Win 9x uses OEM and WinXP uses ANSI.

The one half character was 171 $AB in Win 9x and is 189 $BD in Win XP.

If you open NOTEPAD and type Alt-171 on the numeric keypad, you should get a 1/2 (½) from the OEM charset, if you type Alt-0189 you should also get one half this is ANSI (with the zero in front).

Just to confuse you more...

Comet also supports character translation if you want to use OEM character set internally. This is required if you use foreign language support (aka accents). This translation table keeps your data, your screen display and all DOS based printing in OEM character set. Any printing done using the Windows Printers (Type W) would print the ANSI equivalent - not always the right one...

Find attached the OEM-to-ANSI table (add it to your COSW.INI) and also a little program that displays the whole character set on your machine TESTCAR.OBJ).

Note that a Comet restart is required for any change in COSW.INI to take effect.
