Bill:

The 64K of memory for the sort gateway is allocated to the Comet host at startup. Unless you're running Comet on your server, this memory will be allocated from the client computer. Each task configured for a node requires 64K of memory to run your programs. So, yes, I guess by configuring a sort gateway you'd in theory be reducing the total number of tasks that could be configured. But with the amount of memory on today's PCs I'd be surprised if you'd feel the hit.

You are correct about local gateway declarations overriding all globally declared gateways. Here's an excerpt from the documentation on that:

"Gateways configured in the global section of an INI file apply to all nodes. However, a gateway configured in the local section (i.e., within a [NODE] group) will override all of the global gateway definitions. Since gateways are not numbered in the INI file, SYSGEN has no way to know which ones you might want to override. Therefore, when declaring gateways in the [NODE] group, declare and redeclare all the gateways that node might need or want."
