To a lesser degree, I'm with Grant. Multiple methods and layers of backing up data to protect your butt. Tapes are sequential and slower but ALSO can be an extra layer of insurance. Anything is better than nothing. Just don't rely on a single method. Must have safety net! The world of *BACKUP is over.. Speed of restore is very important. Don't confuse a complete restore with partial is my belief. As I've stated earlier, archive everything. Disc is cheap and huge!! Have a monthly inventory transaction report that you clear every month called I1T? Consider a History file called I1T-H. Keep history files going and have ability to restore/inquire quickly with utility programs for support. As for my 1.5 TB sata drive, I do a XCOPY by clicking on a icon from my 2008 server desktop to backup my server once a week (the data portion, not 2008).
