We are serving our data from a SAN, Windows 2008 will let you specify a network device to look like a local drive. We have converted our stand alone machines (Comet Anywhere, eComet host) to VMs (MS HyperV) to have their "local" drives to actually be on the SAN as well. I think that MS may take away the need for you to do this, but in the short run it would help if we want peer-peer sharing of data.
