Been working off and on figuring out how to restore previous accounting periods with the click of the mouse. Been struggling with this because of long file names. Before closing any period I create a sub-directory, on the Comet configured directory, in the form YYYY-MM-DD-X (where X is a muliple run counter). Using the 504 method is no good cause it butchers the sub-directory name. Talked with Barb and she guided me to DMW's FileFunc.IBS. Took awhile, but I figured it out and am half way through writing my own routine so I can take it to production for my use. Brian's sample code zeroes right on my sub-dir and returns all in the YYYY-MM-DD-X format. All I have yet to do write that as a hyperlink, mouse select, perform an ACCESS and presto, back to 3rd week July, 2005. During the process of figuring out FileFunc.IBS was surprised to see Windows long and short names. Remembering talk about having Comet support long names, I'm throwing this out. The QDIR.DIR file is nothing more than a keyed file. Have QDIR.DIR contain the long and short file name, just like FileFunc. Tough part is getting it to function backwards so all of our app's aren't broken. I've heard mentioned earlier about having I00, I01, I02 files in the past. QDIR.I00 is for short names. QDIR.I01 could be used for large names. Nothing is broken, it's backward compatible and long file name support can be realized for Comet 2010. What do you think? Cometsrv, Filesrv would have to support both.
