Another thought on IBR editing. Don't edit the IBR at all. Allow placeholder variables, like %1 etc.

Option 1: the front end program that wants to "edit" the IBR could do a SetGlobal (2,IBRData).

IBRDATA: IBRDATA$

Where IBRDATA$ = "%1=LP1" + "%2=08/01/2009" + "%3=08/25/2009". At run time PRINTER %1 would become PRINTER LP1.

Option 2: make the placeholders a value in #CFILES. Something like expressions. The front end program changes from editing a $ file to editing #CFILES.
