I agree with Jon. Sometimes its difficult to get people to change their thinking, despite whats good for the customer. Often this has to do more with ignorance rather than arrogance -- people go with what they know, and what they're comfortable with. I think if you can show them the benefits of running Server 2008, while maintaining a connection to their comfort zone with VMware, you may experience success.
