The argument will be made that being self-employed makes it easier for you to serve. The court day is so short that you can still make it work.
I found that during voir dire, if you laugh at one of the lawyers questions, you get released rather quickly.
The system needs to be changed. Fair pay and everyone serves regardless. If that happened, you would get called infrequently.
