The situation first. Daa!! X-mas & Year-end, Payroll-W2's, G/L Closings, complete new A/P system design, because of client's demands missed Jan 15th FED Quarterly tax. Augment using NAS backup solutions? Boy, can it be slow!! Thus ROBO to help speed things up. Clients behind on Windows OS releases and users arguing DON'T TOUCH MY PC!! And then there's March 15th from SIG!! And don't forget about April 15th stuff.. What a struggle. On top of all this have your Win/2008 Server will not boot?? Oh dam!! Had backups up to 12/25/2009 using NAS. Because of client demand blew off backups to catch-up. Server was running for 6 plus weeks constantly. Usually turn it off nightly. Turned off Monday, tried to turn on Tuesday. Adaptec Raid-5 would not crank-up. Updated the firmware, no luck. Zeroed in on the Raid-5 cage. Was not convinced power was being passed to drives. Adaptec timed-out every time. Lot's of dust. Cleaned it up. Cage fan too noisy to determine if drives are running. Making a long struggle short, bypassed cage and connected all RAID-5 drives directly to PC power. Cage at fault?? Let's test. Beware RAID-5 disc ports 0->3. You just can't hook-up any RAID drive to any port?? You'll screw it up and lose all your data. Sometimes the FOG of getting up and running quickly gets in your way. For me getting a backup was most important. The last 3 weeks of government programming was too important. By-passing anything but the most basic boot got everything to work. Turned on the USB 1.5 T-byte, plugged it and started emergency backups. Dodged a bullet!!
