I'm such an idiot

I'm such an idiot. I installed the newest UltraEdit to see and try it.
Now I can't compile.
I get a message that Comet is not running. There are four sessions running.
I ran IBInstall. It ran. I still can't compile. Why would I want to compule?
Now what do I do?
Why can't I just leave old stuff running? What's so good about the newest?
