So here's my research so far. Multiple big time vendors involved. Here's the names. Standard cell phones, Iphone, Blackberry, MS Mobile and Android. I focused on IM/ICQ since Sig taught me this 10 years ago. Still use it.. Simple text messages. Private systems at first. Then came the internet. Seems like IM is the FOCUS. Social/Business/Private networks all developing their own protocol. Attaching anything. Sharing video, PDF's, pictures or whatever!! Live!! If you're off-line so what, queue it. So if you're in my position discovered two possible solutions. You can try to be compatible with everyone or pick your device. Me?? Iphone. Embedded Client Protocol where you have to make up your own, private protocol. Clientless Platform where you rely on your browser. No software to download to your device. How many browsers are there and which one do YOU trust? I've read this approach can be flaky. Initial attempt will be a home-grown Hello World that displays a Comet file dump on the Iphone display.
