I'm trying to get my head around replacing spooler with Document Manager for Comet32.
I have written a customised version of QSPOOL called ZSPOOL.
My client is a multi-company, multi-store organisation.
I have configured a spooler for each store and certain areas in the organisation (e.g. wages, creditors and general ledger) plus an archive spool for audit reports (e.g. invoice registers, cash receipts journals etc.).
Each of these spools is under password control (e.g. general store operating passwords cannot access wages and accounts or other store spools).
The archive spool carries an index file by program, print date and spool job with 30 programs in the grid. Access to each of these program archives is again under password control. Programs flagged for archive spooling automatically print to the archive spool.
Every print program in the system when printed to the spooler automatically runs an overlay displaying the report on the screen.
My problem is this. I need multiple instances of Document Manager that I can control by password access. The way I see it, I will have to configure some 41 document printers (11 for the general store spools and 30 for each of the programs in the archive).
I much prefer the pdf display formats to txt and html which means convincing the client to part with a considerable sum for server pdf licenses (not looking forward to this when they already have a perfectly adequate solution at no cost).
I guess my plea is for the spool function to be included in Comet32.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
