I have the same issue with a couple of my customers. I'm taking a different long term solution. I want to get them organized so there is only one copy of each object.
You are maintaining multiple copies of the objects so you can use Comet's security scheme to restrict access to certain people. I don't think that's a practical way to live. We need another security scheme.
And there's a good rule: "when you have the same information in more than one place, it's not the same information." It's so easy to get out of sync with different versions of the object installed and the potential problems are so major that I get nightmares just writing this.
A nifty solution to a design problem is not nifty.
