Should Spooler Directories be “S” type on a Cometserve32 Host?

Currently we deploy our spoolers on a unique NT machine as “N” type directories. This was based on a legacy decision to remove demand on the NLM in the Novell environment since only keyed file access was handled by the NLM.

Since Spool files (other than the spooler job file) are not keyed files, there appeared to be little benefit in having the spoolers on the same server as the file system.

Typically output from a spooler destined to a printer is performed as a background task and printing output is based more on the speed of the output device than on the speed in delivering the data to the device. With this said, improving the delivery of the print job seems of little benefit and the increased demand on Cometserve may not be warranted.

I am posing the general question for an opinion before making any changes.
