I did something like that many-many years ago... Let's see if I understood what you want to do.

First I would issue a (Save Screen)
then paint a box/draw a balloon (using graphic characters),
put the Help text in place (the balloon text)
process the input...
then issue a (Restore Screen) and re-display the input text.
