Oracle does ginourmous databases. And does them really, really well. Larry Ellison did not get as rich as he is because Oracle is a fraud. And Oracle is fast, Oracle does searches on God-knows-how-many indices, Oracle does transaction tracking, Oracle does backup while the database is open and active.
Indexed sequential files are so 1960's. I remember them from the IBM 1401 and RAMAC.
You can't compare Comet with Oracle. Would you compare Google with ... Altavista?
