as to QTILITY Option 28 (SEARCH) I've lately been using FINDSTR from Microsoft outside of COMET:

generally the option /p "Skips files with non-printable characters." has gotten me around problems with file content

of course, I'll have to convert CED files (94/7) to *.IBS or *.INC
