PAD problem

Comet 2010 v 426. Compile of instruction: MNUPRG$(X)=PAD(MNUPRG$(X)) gives me a compile error on the 2nd MNUPRG$(X) as undefined. I changed it to a non-arrayed field name and it compiled with no errors
