unusual compiler failure

to the best of my knowledge, I've often had the problem of:

some.fmt: Format _
data.element.1:_
data.element.2;_
data.element.3

where I've had a colon instead of a semi-colon (hope I've gotten that right... never can remember : vs. ;)

this time, I got:

successfully got the printout and after I corrected the one error, compiler generated a (presumably good) COMET object (which I have yet to test).

this is on a COMET2008.391 system
