We think build 434 is an important build for those users of Comet32. There are several changes of note:

1. If Comet32 crashes for some reason, it will try to build several files to help us diagnose the problem. These files can be found in the logs folder.

On XP systems, This folder can be found here:

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Signature Systems\LOGS

And on Win7 or Server2008 systems, here:

%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Signature Systems\LOGS

Use start/run or start/search to locate these folders.

Please send all files found there to us in order to diagnose a crash situation. Unfortunately, we cannot do the same for comet16. If COSH crashes, try to get a drWatson file for us.

2. Multi dimensional arrays were a problem when recompiling programs from comet16 to comet32. Comet32 supports arrays with subscripts starting with zero. In comet16 arrays, subscripts started with 1. All of the references to arrays was compatible except the formatted I/O where (for multi dimensions only) the zero elements got in the way. This has been fixed. Formatted read/write of arrays where the format object contains a repetition factor will produce the same results as the same program compiled for comet16.

3. There were several problems reported about printing a form feed mnemonic. We think we finally understand these problems and have fixed them.

4. The startup program comet.exe has been completely rewritten in C++ and .net. It does a much better job of detecting and installing the Microsoft redistributables and is aware of windows UAC issues and will ask the user for administrator privileges if necessary. This version of Comet.exe appears in the 2011 Comet releases only. Comet2010 retains the old version.

There are many more enhancements to our product. Look at the documentation updates referenced below and check out the enhancements we have made starting with build 432 which was released less than a month ago.
