You don't have to be running Comet 2011 but you do need to have the 2011 license installed and active in the Security Server. To make sure you are running with the 2011 certificate look on the Security Server console. Just above the "Connection Status Messages" you will see "Certificate good for Comet systems built before 4/30/2012."
