The CometAnywhere install package defaults to a folder under "program files". It copies all of the files needed to run CometAnywhere to that folder and sets up a shortcut on the desktop. When CometAnywhere is run from that shortcut, Comet sets up a directory alias, $(COMET), that points to the installation folder.
The CometAnywhere update process uses the $(COMET) alias as its destination when updating the executable files.
Everything was fine with that for the last 10 - 15 years. Now we must run under Windows 7. If you are a normal windows user, Windows 7 does not allow modification of any file under the Program Files folder. It will return an Access Denied error.
There are 2 ways I can think of to solve this problem. Both of them are based on avoiding the Program Files folder.
1. Run CaInstall again, specifying a safe folder such as c:\comet as the destination.
2. Copy all of the files from the program files folder to a safe folder such as c:\comet and reestablish the shortcut on the desktop.
Each file can be a maximum of 1MB in length Uploaded files will be purged from the server on a regular basis.
