however... it's been my procedure to log every change in a "change log" in the program header so that I know when and why source was changed.
in this way, I can search for a key word in the description and find all the headers (and therefore all the programs) that were changed at a specific time for a specific reason.
There is now also some way that I can use NOTEPAD++ to do some of the source control things that are available in VisualStudio and UltraEdit (such as creating "Projects")
Will get to that.
