THANX!
the #MTB with BE will solve a fair amount of my problems since we have a good number of programs where QX ENTERS QX1 and so the alignment is very often important.
spent some time trying to figure out where the .OBJ's went.... I save the .INC/.IBS every week that have changed. only thing I can think of is that:
1) I copied files by date
2) realised that I also copied the .OBJ
3) accidentally deleted the .OBJ in both the source (TEST, where I wanted them) and target (PROD, where I didn't)
it was just that I "sent up the flare" because it was about the fourth time last week that I looked using WHEREIS and found, for example,
a QIC version of the object in OBJ (the current production),
an IB version in SYO (system objects, recompiled to get rid of QIC)
a source (.IBS) in NXT with chage dates roughly matching the empty .obj
a listing (.LST) in NXT with a date that matches the empty .obj
an empty .obj in the NXT (next system, with versions without IMAGE)... which had a name and create date, leading me to believe that QDIR was updated by the compile, which succeeded
still not really sure, but will proceed on the assumption it's only operator (i.e. me) error
Thanx!

P.S. of course, UE will solve a lot of these programs... will try to buy/install in the New Year
