sending a command to a laser printer

We are programming the printing of checks to a laser printer and need to know how to send a command to the printer which activates a program in a special memory card to print the signature and the MICR coding. We have elected to use the memory card for security reasons so it can be removed from the printer and locked up. An ACSII string to be sent to the printer is -
!R!call chk1 check#,transit#,bank#;exit;.
'!R!call' activates the program 'chk1' in the memory card and prints the signature and MICR coding. The rest of the check is printed by the Comet check print program.
Does anyone have a good way to send this command to the printer?
