Opening a TXT file in a viewer involves either Notepad or UltraEdit. Both will alter the printing. A spool file is a RAW text, who wants Windoze printing to mess up a RAW file?

And Grant is right, I still have a few programs that still use PCL.

Main reason I'd want to LPR or print RAW text is the use of Zebra labels printer where printer commands are plain text but notepad messes it up.

Other reason - the main one - is that I use a wonderful piece of software called PlanetPress. It allows the transmission of XML directly to the printer where a resident PostScript program convert the raw XML into a fully formatted document. My client uses this a lot. When you are printing hundred of thousands of mail pieces, speed is an issue. Windows in it's native self can't produce documents fast enough for a speedy 180ppm printer. Sending XML data cuts the data flow down to the bare minimum. This is why a Right-Click Send-To makes a lot of sense to me.

If Print All works so well, why can't we print one document like in the old spooler ?
