I used the '@0E0E0B@' + chr(myColor) for all my color change.

And I don't see why you couldn't use a variable with the mnemonic...

2799 format (changeColor=myColor$);"The was an error... blah blah..

...

let myColor$='@4@' ! red for error message
print (0,2799)
