I recently spent entirely too much time to trackdown a rogue CLEAR LOCAL statment... with fixed places to display contents of variables, I had to keep moving the displays until I narrowed down exactly where the data was disappearing.... since I only had one variable that I knew was being stepped on, it would have been very easy to do a watch list and then look in the trace where the variable was cleared.
I've included a man page from the UNIX debugger (probably 30 years old)..... calling attention to:
next Execute next program line (after stopping); step over any func-
tion calls in the line.
