1) The Copy dialog should have some kind of sub-odometer to show progress as each file gets copied. Large file copies just sit there looking dead (and gray).

2) Could the old COPY routine get a "skiping file XXX" message for Extended files instead of bombing out.

Because of #1, I use COPY and get #2.
