Remember sharing devices? Does everyone have access to LP1 and LP2? How about MT1 and MT2? The basics at the time was SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!! Because equipment was so expensive. So, share it!! There was a singular image backup solution that required everyone to log off to perform the single backup solution to tape. Today, surprisingly tape backups are still used. Yea, they aren't reel-to-reel. But they're still sequential tape!! Want to restore anything sequential? Then you must use sequential methods to do it! Time is money and money is time!! I've used NAS devices in the past to get to the point-click-drag. The NAS device lasted a year then blew up. Screwed me. So now I'm buying/considering/implementing USB WD My Book Essentials 3TB External disc drive for ROBO backups of Windows 2003/2008 Servers for once a week off-site backups!! Map the USB backup drives for every user? Have a Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri USB 3TB TB device? Less than $200. What you think?? Turn it on. Back it up. Turn it off. Wait one week. Do it again and still do your TAPE backup!!
