I still think that J.D.Edwards had a good "hack" to solve Y2K.... all their files had 6 digit dates... so the Y2K solution was to do a one time re-write which didn't involve windowing or any of the other schemes to pack the 6 digits with:

YYYDDD where YYY = CCYY - 1900 (so, 1999 = 099 and 2000 = 100) and DDD is the day within the year 001 to 365/366

the Day within the year can be a little tricky to compute...

P.S. as a "tee-totaler", I can't comment on the sensibleness of 2 scotches before posting... but I do know a story about the age of Scotch Whiskey.... when Frank Sinatra called Dean Martin to tell him that he would marry Mia Farrow.... Martin is quoted as having said.... "Hell, Frank, we've both drunk Scotch older than her"
